Cremator Rebuild

People may have noticed cranes and heavy machinery at the cemetery and will be wondering what’s happening.

Every 10 years we need to rebuild our cremator machines and the second machine is being rebuilt now. The first one was rebuilt about 12 months ago and now it is time for the second. These machines were purchased in 2013 so it is more than time to rebuild the second one. A rebuild means that the stack (chimney) needs to be removed and all the brickwork inside the machine is removed and rebricked to strengthen the walls and support the structure. The job takes about 1 month in total but this includes the removal of old bricks, rebricking and rebuilding the inside of the machine, reinstalling the stack and equipment before heating the bricks to make sure they are properly sealed. It is a time-consuming project but necessary to ensure the safety of the crematorium. The company undergoing the work is Major who manufactured & regularly service the machines.     P & D Rigging from Traralgon have operated the crane to remove the stack, safely securing it on the ground.
