New safety equipment for burials

The Traralgon Cemetery Trust is making some important changes to improve safety. The Trust has been successful in a grant program and has purchased two new pieces of equipment – one is a burial frame that is placed around an open grave for burial and the other is a new gantry which assists in lowering a coffin into a monument.

The grave surround frame prevents anyone from accidentally falling into an open grave whereas the Gantry will be used for monumental graves and other graves where conditions allow.

Benefit to the community

The gantry removes the need for family members and loved ones to assist with the lowering of the coffin or casket into a monument. This will reduce manual handling safety risks. When a gantry is being used for a funeral, it will be set up prior to the funeral commencing to ensure a safe experience for our grieving families.

As a safety-first organisation, the Traralgon Cemetery Trust is always looking for ways to improve our processes and this new initiative will provide a safer experience for families, funeral directors, and our staff.
